Hi friends,
It’s been a while. How are you?
Today I want to try something new. It requires putting on some big girl pants, a large cup of tea and a dash of bravery because I am posting an unedited story. Have you ever wanted to know what a story looks like in its infancy, or what stages of development it might go through? If you’re already a writer and not already a literary prodigy you will know what that looks like and more likely know that feels like a pile of the proverbial.
Now, I have to admit, I am not an intensive editor, I don’t rip things apart to put them back together but I am considerate and deliberate in the changes I make. Perhaps I need to try being more experimental but that can be saved for another story. Over the course of the next few weeks I will be editing this story and sharing with you the updated draft plus the changes made and the thinking behind them.
Today I just want to share the initial first draft and a couple of immediate thoughts. This story was written in early 2020 so reading it was like reading it for the first time and you will be reading the same thing as me so excuse any grammatical errors.
I can’t wait to edit this with you.

“Yet I’m not white?”
“That’s not...”
“Isn’t it?”
“I didn’t mean.”
“I’m sure you didn’t, no.”
Clears throat
“Hm.”
“You were really good in there.”
“For a brown person?”
“No, no...”
“You can stop you know?”
“It’s probably best I do.”
“Yes. I think it is.”
The next morning.
Air. Cold.
Ground. Slightly damp.
Hair. Shouldn’t have left it to dry naturally.
Smoke. Warming.
The sun has already begun to rise for the early morning workers. But standing behind the congregation of high rise office blocks the sun is always yet to reach me.
I looked around the slew of workers approaching the glass building, waiting for a familiar face.
